Status: STRUCTURAL BREAK — Fujairah dead as shuttle port, refining margins at record, IRGC names UAE/Saudi pipelines, Trump TACO on 20% toll within 24h

Headlines

Fujairah Shuttle Port "All But Dead"

  • IRGC hit two UAE supertankers (Mombasa, Al Bahyah) in southern lane of Hormuz, plus a third smaller tanker.
  • Per HFI Research: removes ~6 mb/d from the market (Fujairah bypass capacity).
  • "Despite two U.S. aircraft carriers and with heavy air cover, the United States could not keep the Gulf's biggest oil bypass open."
  • Tanker owners now avoiding even Fujairah transshipment anchorages — worried they could be next targets.
  • Fewer than a dozen vessels crossed Hormuz in 24h after attack (vs 130+ daily before war).

Refining Margin Record

  • 3-2-1 WTI refining margin hit a record $59/bbl (Kobeissi, Bloomberg data).
  • ~8 mb/d of refining capacity offline — ~10% of global capacity (Benzinga).
  • Causes: Iran War + Russian refinery attacks + reduced fuel exports.
  • Margins have nearly tripled since the beginning of 2026.

Trump TACO on 20% Toll (Within 24 Hours)

  • Trump replaced 20% fee with major "Trade and Investment Deals" from Gulf States.
  • "These investments, which he claims will be 'MASSIVE,' are expected to bring factories and equipment to the U.S."
  • Kept only "full blockade" on Iranian ports.
  • Iran declared the MoU "fully shattered."

IRGC Names All Regional Routes

  • "Oil and gas exports from the region — either for everyone or for no one."
  • Specifically named:
  • UAE Habshan-Fujairah pipeline
  • Saudi East-West pipeline
  • Signaling Bab el-Mandeb via Houthis

Iran-US Strike Round Expands

  • Trump held Tuesday Situation Room meeting on "massive offensive" wider than Hormuz strikes.
  • Trump publicly threatened Iran's power plants and bridges next week unless it negotiates.
  • Daniel Davis and others: hitting Iranian energy/bridges triggers Iran torching Gulf oil-gas infrastructure.

Iran Retaliation / Targets Claimed Hit

  • Muwaffaq Salti, Prince Hassan, King Faisal air bases (Jordan)
  • Ali Al-Salem and 5th Fleet-adjacent sites (Kuwait)
  • Sheikh Isa (Bahrain)
  • Al Udeid (Qatar) — satellite imagery shows damaged maintenance facility
  • Kuwaiti navy vessel reportedly struck
  • US troop withdrawal from Iraq reportedly set for Sept 30

Patriot / Air Defense Failure

  • "US Gulf bases are effectively indefensible as Patriot/PAC-3 stocks deplete."
  • 8 interceptors vs 4 Iranian missiles — all 4 impacted.
  • MQ-4C Triton and P-8s pulled out of Jordan.

Maritime Casualties

  • A chemical tanker hit off Oman having never crossed Hormuz (Iran strikes beyond the strait).
  • Bulk carrier Luni partially sank near the strait.
  • US crude/product exports fell ~2 mb/d as buffer stock runs dry.
  • SPR at its lowest since 1983.

Iran: "We Will Be Fair"

  • Iran FM Araghchi: "20% is of course too much. We will be fair."
  • Iranian floated fee: ~$1/barrel (16× cheaper than US ask).

HFI Research: Twilight Zone

  • "Global oil inventories are ~900 million bbls lower than where we were at the end of February."
  • Global product inventories so low that refining margins at all-time highs.
  • US commercial crude inventories weeks away from hitting operational minimums.
  • China lifted product export ban and is starting to absorb all of the floating storage barrels.
  • Production shut-in climbed to ~7.5 million b/d, likely to ~11 million b/d if Fujairah is restricted and Oman lane shuts off.
  • Houthis now involved: Bab el-Mandeb closure risk = ~4 million b/d crude + ~1 million b/d product.
  • Russia losing ~2 million b/d refining capacity + crude export ceiling (6.3-6.5 mb/d) = forced shut-in of ~0.6-0.8 mb/d.
  • Iran + Russia shut-in = 9.1-9.3 mb/d.
  • "Brent short positioning is near an all-time high with the geopolitical risk backdrop at the highest level ever."

June CPI Plunge

  • Headline -0.4% MoM (biggest drop since COVID), 3.5% YoY vs 3.8% expected.
  • Core 0.0% MoM, 2.6% YoY.
  • All of the minus sign was gasoline/energy (-0.437pp) — strip energy and prices were flat.
  • July 28-29 FOMC hike odds crashed from ~40% to single digits (Kobeissi: 8%; Hedgeye: 13%).
  • 2Y yield fell 10bps; gold reclaimed $4,000.

China (Offsetting Bear)

  • China oil demand -19.4% YoY in June; imports -41% YoY, near decade low.
  • Ex-China Asian oil imports recovered to normal 2023-2025 range.

Stock Market

  • IBM biggest one-day drop since 1987/1968, erased ~$69B in a day (-25%).
  • Cause: clients pulled capex forward into servers/storage/memory, starving software.
  • SaaSpocalypse returns — software names fell 3-5% in sympathy.

Energy Secretary Backup: Iraq-Syria Pipeline

  • US backing Iraq-Syria pipeline to bypass Hormuz — viewed skeptically.

OFAC Sanctions (Same Day)

  • Treasury sanctioned 7 individuals/entities in IRGC weapons procurement network.
  • Network: Iran (Nika Jet/Namazi), Nigeria (Vanguard Tactical), Milan (Ettaib/Italian), Russia (Avratek/Selina/Druzhbin).
  • Build on May 8 + June 10 designations under E.O. 13382.

Significance

The structural break: Fujairah is gone. That removes the last commercial bypass around Hormuz. Combined with 10% global refining offline and $59/bbl record 3-2-1, the market is bifurcating — products tighten, crude lags because of China demand collapse and short positioning. Trump's 24-hour TACO on the toll is the first sign of buyer fatigue on his end. IRGC's explicit naming of all regional pipelines is the unambiguous statement that Iran intends to deny Gulf exports entirely if forced.
