⚠️ Direct Access Status

A direct web_fetch of https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/supply/weekly/ on 2026-09-29 returned the landing-page table list (tables 1–14 + appendices) but no embedded weekly data values. The product-supplied page https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_cons_wpsup_k_w.htm returned only the methodology footer ("Finished motor gasoline production and product supplied includes a weekly adjustment applied only to the U.S. total…").

The quantitative claims below are triangulated from the discovery report at discovery-2026-09-29, which read the WPSR series directly on 2026-09-29 before the KB ingest began. Any reader relying on the precise series values should re-fetch the underlying CSVs/XLSXs from the table links listed below rather than rely on this article.

Quantitative Claims (Triangulated)

Metric Value Period Source
Finished motor gasoline product supplied (4-week avg) 8.779 mb/d 4 weeks ending 2026-09-18 discovery-2026-09-29
4-week YoY change −69 kb/d (−0.78%) vs same 4-week window 2025 discovery report (calculated from EIA Table 1)
Baseline 4-week avg (2025) 8.848 mb/d same 4-week window 2025 discovery report (calculated from EIA Table 1)
Single-week product supplied 8.847 mb/d week ending 2026-09-18 discovery report
Prior-week product supplied 8.798 mb/d week ending 2026-09-11 discovery report

The WPSR landing page lists these weekly tables; each is published as CSV, XLS, and PDF:

  • Table 5A — Stocks of Total Motor Gasoline and Fuel Ethanol by PAD District (with Total Gasoline by Sub-PADD)
  • Table 6 — Stocks of Distillate, Kerosene-Type Jet Fuel, Residual Fuel Oil, and Propane/Propylene by PAD District — distillate inventory series
  • Table 7 — Imports and Exports of Crude Oil and Products
  • Table 8 — Preliminary Crude Imports by Country of Origin

Why This Source Matters

The WPSR is the cleanest, fastest-updating, decision-relevant product signal in the US data ecosystem. Within the KB's existing q2-price-impact and refined-products-as-shock-center frameworks:

  1. Weekly gasoline product-supplied is the only high-frequency US proxy for "what consumers are actually taking delivery of" (vs. EIA STEO monthly averages). The −0.78% YoY is small enough to be inside seasonal noise, but the 4-week rolling structure smooths volatility.
  2. Weekly distillate inventory (Table 6) is the only high-frequency US proxy for the inventory operational floor; cross-references the 2026-09-09-eia-steo-september-2026-petroleum-products monthly forecast of <100 mb.
  3. Weekly US retail diesel (Table 14) is the cleanest US proxy for retail-price pass-through; cross-references the 2026-09-09-eia-steo-september-2026-prices monthly forecast.

The discovery report flagged this WPSR as Candidate 1 indicator data for the proposed Distillate Inventory Operational Floor monitoring question — "Where are US, European, and Asian distillate inventories relative to operational minimums?"

Caveats

  • EIA "product supplied" is a proxy for consumption (implied deliveries to wholesale + retail), not real-time pump draw. It captures implied demand, not cash transactions.
  • −0.78% YoY 4-week is small enough to be inside seasonal noise. Do not over-interpret as a structural break.
  • YoY base effect: 2025 H2 included some post-pandemic normalization recovery, which widens the 2026 H2 YoY gap for non-structural reasons.
  • Direct fetch limitation: this article's quantitative claims are triangulated from the discovery report. Re-fetch Tables 1, 6, and 14 directly for any downstream citation requiring precise figures.

Cross-Reference to Companion Articles

Ingested 2026-09-29 from https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/supply/weekly/ and https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_cons_wpsup_k_w.htm. Direct fetch was limited to landing-page table list and methodology footer. Quantitative claims triangulated from the 2026-09-29 discovery report. Concepts

  • demand-destruction-dual-risk — dual-risk framework; the 8.779 mb/d 4-wk avg gasoline product supplied (with −69 kb/d YoY) is the cleanest US price-elastic-demand signal in the new source batch
  • refined-products-as-shock-center — products-as-binding-constraint; the gasoline product-supplied series complements the distillate inventory story
  • oecd-inventory-operational-floor — OECD inventory floor; the WPSR Table 1/4/6/14 series are the weekly inventory operational-floor tracking mechanism
