Price Action¶
After the deal announcement, Brent crude tumbled to ~$82/bbl — down from $126/bbl at the crisis peak. Wholesale gas prices fell ~6%. The market exhaled.
But the international benchmark remains well above the $69/bbl average of 2025.
The Recovery Timeline¶
| Milestone | Timeline |
|---|---|
| Minesweeping (assurance for mainstream shippers) | Late July at earliest |
| 80% of crude flows resume | End of Q3 2026 |
| Full pre-conflict traffic volume | Realistically 2027 |
| Qatar LNG to full capacity | Years |
| Gas exports normalization | Longer than crude |
| Fertilizer transit priority | Back of the queue |

The Qatar LNG Factor¶
Iranian drone strikes on Qatar's gas processing facilities during the conflict forced QatarEnergy — the world's largest LNG producer — to halt production, erasing 20% of global LNG supply at a stroke.
The extensive damage to the Ras Laffan complex means it could take years before it operates at full capacity again. This is one of the most severe physical destruction data points in the KB.
Political Economy¶
SEB's Bjarne Schieldrop: "Trump has to sell this at home as a victory" — US consumers expect lower gasoline prices ahead of midterm elections. The political timeline may create pressure to declare victory before the physical reality fully supports it.
Fertilizer¶
Kpler's Alexis Ellender: fertilizer is "not as high a priority" for transit — behind oil tankers and LNG carriers. This confirms the food security second-order effect is the longest-lasting element of the disruption.
Concepts¶
- ras-laffan-years-to-repair — Qatar Ras Laffan LNG complex damage so severe 'years' to full capacity; 20% of global LNG gone
- fertilizer-queue-position — fertilizer 'at the back of the queue' for transit priority; longest-lasting disruption element
- stranded-vessels-phenomenon — physical logistics of resuming normal traffic complicated by stranded vessel backlog
- fragile-reprieve — industry consensus framing for the reopening
