US-Iran Interim Deal Near G7¶
Status: Developing — reported June 12 as potentially imminent; requires corroboration.
What Is Being Reported¶
gCaptain reported on June 12 that the US and Iran are edging toward signing an interim agreement on the sidelines of the G7 summit. The deal would:
1. Establish terms for broader peace talks
2. Potentially reopen the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions
3. Represent a step beyond the April 7 provisional ceasefire
Significance¶
If confirmed, this would be the most significant diplomatic development since the April 7 ceasefire. However:
- The April 7 "ceasefire" did NOT reopen Hormuz to normal traffic
- An "interim deal" would need to specify actual transit terms (toll system, IRGC behavior, US military posture)
- The Polymarket 27% probability reflects market skepticism about near-term resolution
Relationship to Existing KB Concepts¶
- hormuz — the geographic subject of any diplomatic resolution
- race-against-time — any deal extends the window for buffer preservation
- polymarket-deal-probability — market's probabilistic view of reopening
- hormuz-scenario-tree — deal probability weights the scenarios
- irgc-toll — any deal must address the toll system Iran established
